Students studying Psychology at St John’s Sixth Form, Bishop Auckland, recently welcomed back former student Francine Alba, who returned to share her journey from sixth form to her current role as an Assistant Educational Psychologist.

Speaking to Year 12 and Year 13 Psychology students, Francine reflected on her experiences since leaving sixth form and offered valuable advice to those considering careers in psychology and education.

During the visit, she highlighted the importance of gaining practical work experience alongside academic qualifications and spoke about the resilience needed to pursue a career you are passionate about. Drawing on her own experiences, Francine encouraged students to remain focused on their goals and to embrace opportunities that help develop their skills and understanding.

Francine also spoke about her future ambitions and explained that she hopes to secure a place on a doctorate course in September 2027, which would enable her to become a fully registered Educational Psychologist.

The session gave students a valuable insight into career pathways within educational psychology and a first-hand understanding of the dedication and commitment required to achieve professional goals in the field.

St John’s Sixth Form was delighted to welcome Francine back and thanks her for sharing her experiences and advice with students. Everyone wishes her every success as she works towards the next stage of her career and her goal of becoming a fully qualified Educational Psychologist.
